چکیده

This paper upgrades Regular Linear Temporal Logic (RLTL) with past operators and complementation. RLTL is a temporal logic that extends the expressive power of linear temporal logic (LTL) to all ω-regular languages. The syntax of RLTL consists of an algebraic signature from which expressions are built. In particular, RLTL does not need or expose fix-point binders (like linear time μ-calculus), or automata to build and instantiate operators (like ETL∗). Past operators are easily introduced in RLTL via a single previous-step operator for basic state formulas. The satisfiability and model checking problems for RLTL are PSPACE-complete, which is optimal for extensions of LTL. This result is shown using a novel linear size translation of RLTL expressions into 2-way alternating parity automata on words. Unlike previous automata-theoretic approaches to LTL, this construction is compositional (bottom-up). As alternating parity automata can easily be complemented, the treatment of negation is simple and does not require an upfront transformation of formulas into any normal form.

Regular Linear Temporal Logic

We present regular linear temporal logic (RLTL), a logic that generalizes linear temporal logic with the ability to use regular expressions arbitrarily as sub-expressions. Every LTL operator can be defined as a context in regular linear temporal logic. This implies that there is a (linear) translation from LTL to RLTL. Unlike LTL, regular linear temporal logic can define all ω-regular languages...

PITL2MONA: Implementing a Decision Procedure for Propositional Interval Temporal Logic

Interval Temporal Logic (ITL) is a finite-time linear temporal logic with applications in hardware verification, temporal logic programming and specification of multimedia documents. Due to the logic’s non-elementary complexity, efficient ITL-based verification tools have been difficult to develop, even for propositional subsets. MONA is an efficient implementation of an automata-based decision...

Automated Runtime Verification with Eagle

EAGLE is a very powerful logic for expressing behavioral properties about systems that evolve over time. Specifically, the logic can be used to monitor the execution of computer programs. EAGLE is an extension of propositional logic with three temporal kernel operators, with recursion, and with parameterization over formulas in the logic as well as over data values. Formula parameterization all...

Alternating Automata Semantic Constructions for the Bounded Model Checking of Regular Linear Temporal Logic (Extended Version)

We present two algorithms for bounded model checking of Regular Linear Temporal Logic (RLTL) specifications. Bounded model checking (BMC) is an effective algorithmic method for the verification of finite state systems against temporal specifications expressed in some linear temporal logic, typically LTL. The basis of BMC consists on encoding the existence of a counterexample trace of bounded de...

The ForSpec Temporal Logic: A New Temporal Property-Specification Language

In this paper we describe the ForSpec Temporal Logic (FTL), the new temporal property-specification logic of ForSpec, Intel’s new formal specification language. The key features of FTL are as follows: it is a linear temporal logic, based on Pnueli’s LTL, it is based on a rich set of logical and arithmetical operations on bit vectors to describe state properties, it enables the user to define te...
